Pipe Boot & Vent Collar Replacement

Pipe Boot & Vent Collar Replacement

Pipe Boot & Vent Collar Replacement

The rubber boot around a plumbing vent pipe is one of the first parts of a roof to fail. Sun exposure dries and cracks the rubber, and once that happens water can travel down the pipe and into the ceiling below. Replacing the boot or the full vent collar closes that path before the leak spreads further into the roof deck.

What This Service Covers

  • Boot Inspection — checking the rubber or metal collar around each pipe penetration for cracking, splitting, or gaps at the pipe.
  • Collar Replacement — removing the failed boot and installing a new collar sized and cut to fit the pipe and surrounding shingles or membrane.
  • Surrounding Check — a look at the shingles, underlayment, or membrane immediately around the penetration for related damage.

Finding Hidden Leaks First

A failed pipe boot does not always show itself right away on the roof surface. We use handheld infrared cameras and moisture meters to check for wet insulation or a damp roof deck around the penetration before starting the repair, so the work addresses what is actually happening under the surface rather than just what is visible from above.

Correctly Sized Penetrations

  • Hole Saws & Vent Cutting Jigs — used to keep any new or enlarged penetration clean and properly sized around the pipe.
  • Caulking Guns & Heat Guns — for sealant and detail work at the collar edge, applied at the right temperature to bond properly.
